How to get through the first day of a criminal case
The first day is usually the hardest. You do not have to solve everything at once — a few right steps and not making things worse is enough.
What not to do
- Do not make major decisions while stressed and alone.
- Do not testify or explain without a lawyer, not even "informally".
- Do not delete data, move assets or try "quick" fixes.
- Do not stay alone with it — tell someone you trust.
Record right away
- What exactly happened, when and who was present.
- All documents you received (summons, decisions, confirmations).
- Any dates and deadlines you already know.
- The questions you want to ask your lawyer.
Your rights
- The presumption of innocence applies to you until a final verdict.
- You have the right to a lawyer and not to incriminate yourself.
- You have the right to time — you do not have to act "instantly" under pressure.
- You have the right to the support of family and loved ones.
